Everyone who wants to join the struggle to end racism should be familiarizing themselves with these concepts and tools. It is also presented with the hope and kindness needed to change hearts and minds.

Responding to the community’s call for an accessible space to talk about promoting equity and justice within our community, The Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center partnered with the Whatcom Community Foundation (WCF) to sponsor the “Exploring Equity and Cultural Humility” community training on Thursday, July 9th, 2020 for up to 50 attendees. REACH instructors Masa DeLara, Heather Jefferson, and Julie Mauermann shared their first-hand reflections, stories, and rich experience as educators as they encouraged participants to reflect deeply and identify opportunities to move from concern into action. The community response to this training was so overwhelmingly positive that the trainers agreed to raise the participant number and in total, 61 individuals were able to participate in this impactful training.

If you weren’t able to attend this first sponsored training session, the WCF has agreed to sponsor another “Exploring Equity and Cultural Humility” training open to all community members at no cost, for up to 50 participants. This upcoming training will be held on Thursday, August 13th from 1-4pm.

This workshop has given me ideas and tools to bring back to my organization which will in turn lead to positive change in our community.
